SOOHYUN KIM
South Korea
(2005-2012)
Around the time I was born, South Korea was in a period of fast economic development. This was aided by a respected dictator and a devout national character. Villages became abandoned due to the opportunities in the city. Christianity was encouraged as it was beneficial to this new capitalist bend. Society became fractured as the new national order attempted to become part of the world economic stage. I attempted to show the fractured state we have become and speak to the sense of pathetic irony and alienation I feel in these modern rural and urban contexts.
